What happens if your payment fails

Last updated: August 24, 2026

Short answer: you have 30 days, and nothing is deleted during that time. Most failed payments are just an expired card.

The timeline

Day 1 to 14 — nothing changes

We’ll retry your card several times over two weeks and email you each time. Your automations keep running and your team keeps working. Someone from our team will also get in touch directly.

If you update your card during this window, everything continues as though nothing happened.

Day 15 — automations pause

If the card still hasn’t gone through after two weeks, your account is restricted:

You can still: see all your conversations, view your contacts, and edit your automations.

You can’t: send messages through Winly, or run automations.

Your social accounts stay connected and are completely unaffected — you can still reply to anyone directly in Instagram, LinkedIn, or Facebook. What pauses is Winly’s ability to send on your behalf.

One thing to expect: search stops working at this point, though your message history is still there to browse.

Everyone on your account gets an email at this stage, not just whoever’s card is on file. That’s deliberate — the person who set up billing often isn’t the person using Winly every day.

Day 30 — the account closes

If the payment still hasn’t been resolved after 30 days, the subscription closes and data deletion begins. We send a final notice 48 hours beforehand with the exact date.

See [What happens to your data when your account closes] for what happens next.

The important bit

If you pay before the closure date, nothing changes. Access comes straight back, your automations pick up exactly where they stopped, and there’s nothing to reconnect or rebuild.

After that date, it’s a fresh start. You’d reconnect your social accounts and rebuild your automations from scratch.

Fixing it

Use the link in any of our emails, or the banner inside Winly. It takes about a minute. See [How to update your payment method].

If the card’s fine and it’s still being declined, that’s usually your bank rather than us — worth a quick call to them.

Need more time?

Get in touch — chat to us inside Winly, or email hello@getwinly.ai. If you have a genuine plan to pay, like a replacement card on its way or a payment run on a known date, we can often extend the closure date to protect your data.

Just ask before the date passes. Once it does, we can’t undo it.

Need help? Open the chat inside Winly, or email us at hello@getwinly.ai. We reply within one business day.
